Samburu, Kenya's rugged northeastern region is our first destination. Samburu is well known for some unique species like the grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe and the long necked geranuk. We'll take an afternoon game drive before settling into Samburu Lodge for the night. Relax on your private balcony overlooking the river. Huge herds of elephant, prides of lion or the solitary leopard amongst other game are regular visitors around the camp providing excellent game viewing in a spectacular setting. Early morning we’ll take another game drive before relaxing back at camp in the heat of the day. As the weather cools and the animals become more active we’ll set out in the afternoon for more game viewing.

Leaving Samburu we head towards Mt Kenya where we spend the night on an eco-friendly farm in their farmhouse.

After travelling down in to the Rift Valley, Naivasha is our next destination for three nights. To view stunning birds and hippos, we’ll cross the lake to the Crescent Island Game Reserve where you’ll wander on foot and experience first hand some more of East Africa’s game. We’ll also visit Joy and George Adamson’s former home. In the hills overlooking Lake Naivasha is Ngondi, the remote village where Karoma’s Mama lives. Here you’ll receive a warm welcome, visit the local school and experience authentic African life.

Next we enter Nakuru National Park. Nakuru NP is dominated by a huge soda pan and has the largest herd of black rhino in East Africa and over a million pink flamingos feeding on the shore. ‘Nakuru’ means ‘place of the waterbuck’ in Swahili and these antelope abound in the park as well as impala, buffalo and warthog. Also in the park there are zebra, Rothschild giraffes, lion, leopards and more than 400 bird species.

Travelling around the edge of Lake Victoria we’ll pass through Kisii and Musoma before entering the seemingly endless grasslands of the Serengeti. We’ll be observing the vast range of animal and bird life before staying in the heart of the Reserve - during the hours of darkness the game is at its most active and the sounds of the surrounding wildlife can be heard through the night. The Serengeti comes from the Masai word meaning endless plains, it's the most famous and prolific game park in Tanzania and has one of the largest concentration of game in Africa. The Big Five inhabit the 15,000km2 of the reserve, which is larger than Holland.

Next we head off in 4-wheel drive safari vehicles descending 2,000 feet into the Ngorongoro Crater which is an extinct volcano over 2-and-a-half million years old. At 19kms across and 600m deep this is the 5^th largest crater in the world. The crater walls form a natural enclosure that is packed with wildlife. The views of the Crater's vast soda lake, from the mist-shrouded rim are incredible.

From the crater we travel through Meserani Snake Park, Arusha, via the village of Mto Wa Mbu, where Masai display their carvings, spears and bead work. The traditional herdsmen, attired in colourful dress and ornate jewellery, can be seen grazing their cattle by the road. Time in Arusha can be spent relaxing, exploring the craft shops, visiting the Masai museum or perhaps venture on a closer encounter with the wildlife - take a camel safari or explore the Snake Park.

Heading back into Kenya there is the possibility of seeing Mt Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain. Before flying out of Nairobi there is the option to visit Karen Blixen’s former home, visit the animal orphanage or feed the giraffes at Langatta giraffe centre. If you’d like to extend your holiday in Africa by either climbing Mt Kilimanjaro, visiting the gorillas in Uganda or visiting Zanzibar Island let us know and we can make arrangements for you.
